About Itoko
A sushi & robata house from Chef Gene Kato of Momotaro and Boka Restaurant Group!
Located at 3325 N Southport Ave, Chicago, IL 60657, Itoko operates as a japanese serving Chicago in Illinois. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it.
Portion sizes and pricing swing widely across this group, from a $10 lunch bowl to a multi-course tasting menu at an upscale sushi counter, so checking recent reviews and photos is more useful than the price range alone. In Chicago, dinner reservations for popular izakaya, hot pot and Korean BBQ spots fill up on Friday and Saturday nights, so booking ahead or arriving at opening is worth it. Many restaurants across Illinois run daily lunch specials on weekdays that are not listed on the dinner menu, so it is worth asking. Halal, vegetarian and gluten-free options vary a lot by kitchen; call ahead if you have a dietary restriction rather than assuming the menu will note it.

We heard the happy hour hype about this spot, so we had to checked it out. We made a reservation since itβs a popular spot. We ordered a couple Nigiri, a couple Maki, two Hand Rolls, Wagyu Fried Rice, and the Burger. Everything was delicious, especially the hand rolls and the fried rice. Highly recommend the fried rice. We had high expectations for the burger, but it was our least favorite. Too greasy. Oil ran out the moment you bit into it. We didn't know the bun was fried. It tasted like a funnel cake. The burger would have been great if they didnβt do extra with stuff with bun. The service was good. We will definitely come back to try other dishes. They have great selections on the happy hour menu.

I came in with friends to celebrate my birthday on a Friday night. We had to wait a little past our reservation time for the table to be ready. However, the service and food made up for that. All our food was fresh and the sushi seemed high quality. Really enjoyed the lychee martini too! Our server was friendly and attentive, it was really nice that they take Polaroid pictures and give you a little memento for birthday celebrations!

Love this cute place. We went for happy hour time which is good options in the menu. We tried many dishes and it all great. Drinks are great too. we have red, white and lynchee martini (signature here). Service was amazing, they are on top of everything. We sat at the bar. Love to go back again.

I visited on November 23, 2025, and the experience was extremely disappointing. This was the first time in my life that I encountered both fish scales and fish bones in sashimi, and they were not from the same piece. After biting into fish scales, I informed the server. The restaurant replaced the piece, which I appreciated. However, shortly after that, I encountered a fish bone in another slice of sashimi. At that point, I was honestly stunned and chose not to raise the issue again. For a restaurant with high pricing, this level of quality control is completely unacceptable. Our total bill, including tip, was around $400, which makes this experience even more frustrating. Proper sashimi preparation is basic and fundamental. Finding fish scales and bones in multiple pieces reflects carelessness and poor standards. To put this into perspective, even inexpensive sashimi from H Mart has never contained fish scales or bones in my experience. That comparison alone says a lot. Given the price point, this was far below expectations. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for quality Japanese food, and I will not be returning.

We hit up Itoko for Sunday brunch and honestly, we probably could have skipped the last-minute reservationβthey had us seated before I could even check my coat. The kitchen is clearly operating on a "speed of light" policy, which would be great if the service didn't feel so wonky. Our appetizers and entrees staged a full-scale "plate pile-up" on our table before the drinks even arrived. Pro tip: avoid the corner of the counter unless youβre looking to be invisible; our server basically disappeared after the food drop and only resurfaced to hand over the check. Now, letβs discuss this "lychee sangria." Can you legally call something a sangria if it has zero wine and exactly one piece of fruit? Regardless of the identity crisis, it was delicious, went down way too easy, and I can see why people go hard on the bottomless offer. The food was a bit of a mixed bag; the deviled eggs were great with a subtle, non-offensive curry, but the seaweed on the rice crackers for the spicy tuna dip was so aggressive it basically bullied the tuna off the plate. If you order the cucumber salad, just know itβs bringing some serious, non-negotiable heatβcome prepared. As for the mains, the brunch vers
